Located about 20 miles from Manhattan, Roslyn is a historic suburb that reminds some people of New England. It has varied housing styles, and many residents own their own homes.

 

The area was first settled in 1633 when it was called Hempstead Harbor. Due to confusion with other settlements with similar names, the name was changed to Roslyn on September 7, 1844, since its location in a valley reminded some residents of Roslin, Scotland.

Roslyn’s small but attractive waterfront has a walking path and gardens. The Nassau County Museum of Art at the former Frick "Clayton" estate offers exhibits and a sculpture garden on the breathtaking 145-acre spread. Tee Ridder Miniatures Museum is a fun place for kids as well as adults.
